Gold & Precious Metals — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about trading spot gold, silver, platinum and palladium with Btrade center.
Our spot gold price is streamed from a combination of institutional over-the-counter bullion desks, COMEX futures front-month curves, and the LBMA reference auction. Prices are aggregated in real time to produce a continuous executable mid-price, with a transparent spread applied according to your account tier. The LBMA Gold Price benchmark is set twice daily at 10:30 and 15:00 London time via an independent electronic auction process.
Standard retail precious metal instruments are cash-settled CFDs — they track the underlying spot price but no physical bullion changes hands. Profits and losses are realized directly in your account base currency. Eligible institutional and high-net-worth clients can request physically settled bullion delivery through our partner vaults with minimum quantities subject to contract. All client-facing documentation clearly indicates the settlement type for each instrument.
You can trade from 0.01 standard lots on every precious metal instrument. For gold (XAU/USD), 0.01 lots equals 1 troy ounce of exposure with a per-dollar-pip value of roughly $0.01. For silver, 0.01 lots equals 50 troy ounces. There is no upper limit on position size beyond standard per-symbol exposure caps and available margin. The trading platform calculates required margin, pip value, and profit-at-risk before you confirm every order.
Gold and silver spreads are tightest during the London morning session and the London–New York overlap (roughly 13:00–17:00 UTC) when both the LBMA bullion market and COMEX futures are active. Spreads naturally widen during the Asian session, the 22:00 UTC daily maintenance break, and around major US data or FOMC releases. XAU/USD spreads can drop as low as 0.15 during peak hours while averaging approximately 0.35 across the full trading week.
Yes, guaranteed stop-loss orders (GSLOs) are available on spot gold, silver and platinum instruments subject to a small per-trade premium fee and a minimum distance from the current price measured in points. Standard non-guaranteed stop-loss orders are always free and available on every precious metal we list. All retail accounts also benefit from statutory negative balance protection, so you can never lose more than your deposited capital on any trade sequence.
